Any Major Differences Between Husqvarna 445 and 450?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to upgrade my current chainsaw and need some input. I’ve been using the Husqvarna 445 for a while, but it’s not quite powerful enough for some of the bigger tasks I’ve been tackling recently. I’ve been considering upgrading to the Husqvarna 450, but I’m wondering if there are any significant differences between the two models. I know the 450 is a bit more powerful, but is it worth the extra cost? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for input on:

  • Power and cutting performance
  • Weight and handling
  • Durability
  • Reliability for occasional heavy use
Thanks!

Hey Kent-o-Kent,
I’ve used both the 445 and 450, and while they’re pretty similar in design, the 450 does have a noticeable power boost. If you’re finding the 445 struggling with bigger jobs, the 450’s extra 0.4 hp and slightly higher chain speed might be worth it.

In terms of weight and handling, they’re nearly identical, so you won’t feel much difference there. The 450 does have Smart Start, which makes it a bit easier to fire up, especially in colder weather. Durability-wise, both are solid, but if you’re doing occasional heavy use, the extra power from the 450 could mean less strain on the saw over time.

That said, if you’re mostly doing firewood cutting and medium-duty work, the 445 can still handle a lot. If budget isn’t a big issue, I’d say go for the 450 for that extra power buffer. What kind of jobs are you tackling with your saw?

If you're already feeling the limits of the 445, the 450's extra power could be a nice upgrade. They're pretty similar in weight and feel, but that little boost can make a difference on tougher cuts. If budget allows, I'd say go for it!

If you're already pushing the limits of the 445, upgrading to the 450 sounds like a solid move. The extra power should help with those tougher cuts without adding much weight. If budget allows, it’s probably worth it for the long run!
