Do Skid Loaders Have Titles?

Hey everyone,

I'm considering purchasing a skid loader and was wondering if they come with titles like cars and trucks do. Do skid loaders require a title for ownership or registration purposes?

Are there any differences in title requirements between states or for new vs. used purchases? Also, if a skid loader doesn’t have a title, what documents should I ask for to verify ownership?

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Skid loaders usually don’t come with titles like cars, but a bill of sale and any original purchase documents are key for proving ownership. Some states might require registration if you're using it on public roads, but for private use, it's mostly just about having proper paperwork. If you’re buying used, definitely check for a serial number and make sure it’s not stolen!

Yeah, skid loaders don’t typically have titles, but a bill of sale and serial number check are super important, especially for used ones. Some states might have extra requirements if you’re taking it on public roads, but for private use, it’s all about keeping good records. Definitely worth double-checking with your local DMV if you’re unsure!

Definitely agree that a bill of sale and serial number check are must-haves when buying used. Has anyone run into issues registering or insuring a skid loader without a title, or is it usually pretty straightforward?

I guess they’re just not glamorous enough for a title. But yeah, definitely make sure to get that bill of sale and do a serial number check, unless you want to end up with a ‘borrowed’ loader! :) Anyone here ever have a close call with a loader that didn’t have the right paperwork?
