How Are Forklifts Classified?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to get a better understanding of how forklifts are classified. I know there are different types based on design, power source, and usage, but what are the key factors that determine their classification?

For example:
  • How do Class I to Class VII forklifts differ?
  • What’s the main distinction between electric vs. internal combustion forklifts in terms of performance and application?
  • Are there specific classifications that work best for warehouses vs. outdoor job sites?

Would love to hear insights from those with experience using different types! Thanks in advance.

Great question! Forklifts are basically classified by power source, tires, and what kind of work they’re built for. Class I (electric) is super common in warehouses since they’re quiet and emission-free, while Class IV and V (internal combustion) are beasts for outdoor sites with rough terrain. If you need heavy lifting, Class VII (telehandlers) are like the superheroes of forklifts. What kind are you working with, @Kent-o-Kent?
