Hi all,

I’m curious about the earning potential for excavator operators. How much do they typically get paid, and what factors influence their salary? Does experience, location, or industry make a big difference? Also, are there any certifications or skills that can help boost pay?

Would love to hear from those in the field!

Excavator operators can make a pretty solid living, but the pay varies a lot depending on location, experience, and industry. Union jobs or specialized work (like pipeline or mining) tend to pay more, while entry-level gigs might start lower. Certifications like NCCER or OSHA safety training can definitely help bump up your earning potential. Where are you looking to work, @Dozerbuddy? Some areas pay way better than others!

Yeah, pay can be all over the place depending on where you are and what kind of work you’re doing. Heavy civil projects and mining gigs usually pay more than basic residential work. If you’re willing to travel, you can chase the higher-paying jobs too. You looking to get into the field or just curious?

As a small business owner, I’ve seen that pay really depends on the type of work and location. On our projects, experienced operators with the right certifications tend to earn more, especially if they’re working on specialized jobs like utility or road construction. Definitely something to consider when planning your career path!

Excavator operator pay can vary a lot! Union jobs, mining, and specialized work pay more, and certifications help too. @Dozerbuddy, are you looking to start in the field or already have some experience?

Definitely agree with everyone the location and type of job make a big difference. I’ve seen guys with a few years under their belt and the right certs pull in solid money, especially on union or pipeline jobs. @Dozerbuddy, are you thinking about jumping in full-time or just testing the waters?

Lots of solid info here already. But yeah, it really depends on where you are and what kind of jobs you’re landing. I’ve seen operators make anywhere from $25/hr starting out to $40+ with experience, especially on union or out-of-town gigs. Having certs like NCCER, OSHA, or even GPS machine control training can definitely open more doors and boost your pay. Are you looking to get started soon or just scoping it out for now?
