How much do skid steers weigh?

Can anyone share the typical weight range for skid steers? I’m curious about how much they weigh depending on the size and model, especially for lifting and transport considerations.

Skid steer weights can vary depending on the model and size, but typically range from 1,500 to 2,500 pounds for smaller, compact models, and up to 10,000 pounds or more for larger, heavy-duty models. Consider both the operating weight and the lifting capacity when planning for transport or heavy lifting tasks.

Good breakdown, @Gerry! Another thing to consider is the trailer and towing capacity if you’re planning to move one around. Some of the bigger skid steers can push the limits of a standard pickup and trailer setup. @Mechelle, are you looking at a specific model, or just trying to get a general idea?

@Gerry makes a solid point on weight ranges, but I’d argue that some of the larger skid steers—especially tracked ones—can go well over 12,000 lbs with attachments. If you’re hauling one, definitely check the tow rating on your truck and trailer. @Mechelle, are you planning to move one regularly, or just curious about the weight for general use?

Great points so far! @Jared Allen, that’s a good call about tracked skid steers, they can really add to the weight, especially with something like a mulcher or auger attached. @Mechelle, are you mainly looking at wheeled or tracked models? That could make a big difference in transport and operating weight!

Some solid info here! @BricklayerX brings up a great point, attachments can really push up the weight, especially on tracked models. @Mechelle, are you looking at a specific use case, like hauling it often or working on softer ground? That might help narrow down the right size and weight range!

I’ve hauled a few skid steers over the years, and weight can definitely sneak up on you, especially with attachments. My mid-size wheeled model sits around 7,500 lbs, but once I throw on a heavy-duty bucket or grapple, it adds up fast. Definitely worth checking your trailer and truck’s towing capacity before hitting the road!
