Hey everyone,

I’m a heavy equipment operator looking for the best ways to land a high-paying job in the industry. Are there specific sectors or locations that offer the best salaries right now? Also, do certain certifications or specializations, like crane operation or pipeline work, really make a big difference in pay? I’d love to hear from others, especially women in the field, about job boards, networking tips, and whether union or non-union routes have worked better for you. If you’ve found success in a high-paying role, how did you get there?

Hey @Beverly Peterson, great question! In my experience, certain sectors like pipeline work, construction, and mining tend to offer the highest pay for operators. Also, having specialized certifications like crane operation or even a CDL can definitely boost your chances. Networking through industry events and job boards like Indeed or Monster has helped me find opportunities. I’d say both union and non-union routes have their pros, but unions often offer better benefits and job security. Best of luck in your search!

Hey @Beverly Peterson, I’ve found that checking out local union halls and even talking to reps at trade schools can open doors too. If you haven’t already, maybe look into wind farm or solar site projects—those gigs seem to be booming in 2025 and pay pretty well!

I'd also add that some of the government-funded infrastructure projects are offering solid pay right now. @Grab_a_Buck, I’ve heard the same about solar and wind, have you worked on one of those sites yet? Curious how the day-to-day compares to more traditional construction jobs.

Definitely check out the pipeline, mining, and construction sectors -those tend to pay the best! Specialized certifications like crane operation or CDL can really make a difference, and networking at industry events or with unions can open up solid opportunities.
